Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 5:08 pm

Among some of the top rated epilators on the market today are Philips Epilators. They have some wonderful epilators using the best technology for smooth skin and even with pain softeners.

As examples of two of the most popular epilators we will look at Philips Epilator HP6443 Satinelle and Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6409.

The Philips Satinelle HP6443 is a two speed epilator with pain softener which improves the epilation. It is designed for all body areas, including the bikini line and underarms. The unique Pincette system uses 21 rotating discs that will remove even the shortest hair of 0.5mm. You will be able to choose from 2 speeds for fast and comfortable hair removal. The pain softener attachment is very easy to remove for cleaning. It comes in a mellow pink finish and includes a very nice storage or traveling pouch, cleaning brush and protective cap.

The Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6409 has all the great features as the one above but comes in a smaller compact size which is easier for traveling and carrying with you. The soft precision cap is awesome and will reduce the number of active discs which will provide you with a gentler epilation on all your sensitive areas. The rubber fingers are in a row on the cap and massage and stretch your skin which also reduces the pain. The shaving head of the Philips Epilator HP6409 is exchangeable for when you prefer to shave instead of epilate. The two speed setting will give you the freedom to adjust the speed for thin or thicker hairs. This epilator comes in pumpkin orange with pearl white trim.

These are just two of the most popular epilators on the market today that will give you smooth skin and give you the freedom of being hair free for up to 4 weeks. You will not have to worry about your bikini line or your underarms any more when you have a Philips Epilator close at hand.

Do You Know How to Buy and Read eBooks!

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 5:04 pm

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking, “Reading and eBook is just like reading an ordinary book.” I disagree. Here’s way, If you’re here reading this article then I’m pretty sure you’ve read your fair share of eBooks, and most likely most of those eBooks were on the topic of internet marketing, making money from home, home based business opportunities, and on and on right? The reason that eBooks are ready differently than your normal novel is because of the way they are sold.

Here’s what I mean When you go to Borders to and pick up your favorite mystery novel you you’re not given a hard sell on the benefits of buying that mystery novel right before you make the decision to buy or not. At a book store, you buy a book because you decide you want it or YOU decide you need it for some particular task. No big promises are made as to the results that you will after you learn the books “hidden secrets”, so you take the book at face value.

Now, things are totally different when you buy an eBook. So, let me go through the steps and the psychology that I used to go through when I bought an eBook. I think you might find some this pretty familiar

First I would happen across the sales page through some link, usually while searching for some sort of information that can help me earn money online. Then, I was hit with a powerful headline that says “Do XYZ after learning my SECRET and YOU to can make $1,000,000 TODAY!” I’d stop and say hmm that sounds interesting let me read a little more about this secret to see if I can figure out what it is.

Next, I’d get sucked into the sales page which would take me on an emotional rollercoaster which left me a burning desire to know what this author’s secret is and led me to believe that I couldn’t live without this information. I would then ponder on the idea of making $1,000,000 today and ask myself “what if this information really will make me rich how much would it be worth?”

At this point I’d consider paying for the secrets, but only if the price was right. So, I start looking for the sales price which is always hidden deep in the sales page somewhere where you can never find to decide whether or not I was going to buy it (Finding the price of an eBook is kind of like playing “Where’s Waldo?” you know it’s there somewhere but you just can figure out where. )

When I finally found it, if the price was right I buy it. Then in a sort of nervous anxious rage I would download my new treasure and rip through it until I foundd the “secret” hidden deep within. When I did find the secret I was usually a little let down because it was either something that I probably could have figured out myself or it seemed to hard or it would take to long. Then I threw the book aside until the next secret came along that struck my fancy.

Maybe this isn’t exactly how you approach eBooks, but it is how quite a few people do. I hope you see the flaw in this sort of information acquisition. Most people, in my estimation, buy eBooks to find out the hidden secret within and not to actually learn and apply what’s in the book. The sales prose on the sale page does such a good job at selling the person that they need to know that secret that that ends up being the major reason they purchase the information, That is most people don’t buy eBooks as an information resource they are simple buying the secret. They rip through the eBook and when they find whatever secret it was they were looking for it’s almost as if they are satisfied with that alone.

Please never do this! You will find yourself wasting a lot of money and put yourself on an expensive and frustrating emotional rollercoaster.

So,

Here is the correct way to buy and read an eBook:

First:

Only buy an eBook if you are sure that it is something that will absolutely help with your task at hand. For example, if your in the process of creating an affiliate website don’t buy a eBook that will teach you how to create an opt-in list until the task at hand is completed. Buying extra information products will only confuse you and stop your forward progression in whatever task it is that you are currently doing if they are off subject.

Second:

When you do find supplemental information to help you with your task at hand save the sales page and wait a week before you buy the book. If you come back in a week and the you still feel the information will be extremely helpful purchase the book. (Tis is much easier said than done!)

Tip: If the eBooks is on some sort of basic information there is usually a forum somewhere where you can ask an expert first hand your specific question and get real time valuable information for FREE. Try this first. You may be pleasantly surprised with what you learn.

Third:

When you do buy the eBook take it slow. Print it out. Pick up a highlighter and relax in your favorite easy chair. Take notes. Come up with your own and write down your broad takeaways. Then use the individual tips and strategies contained in the eBook one at a time. Track your results and trouble shoot.

That’s it!

If you follow the three simples steps above you’ll find yourself spending much less on eBooks and getting much more mileage out of those that you do buy. As a final word of advice, take eBooks at face value just like any other book and never buy an eBook just because you want to learn some secret and you’ll be just fine.

Teen Jewelry Fashion Exposed

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 4:33 pm

Teenagers are a fickle bunch. At that stage of physical and psychological growth, they are constantly experimenting with things to improve their image and their look. Teen jewelry fashion plays a major part in the development of their identity and efforts to either blend in with the crowd or establish their own unique persona. Any parental endorsement of fashion accessories is akin to the kiss of death, and adolescents look to other influences when it comes to teen jewelry fashion.

The celebrities that teenagers see in music videos, television programs or movie screens are largely responsible for dictating trends in teen jewelry fashion. The oversized, ostentatious accoutrements favored by rap musicians have spawned the hip-hop jewelry trend, and teenagers have been patronizing lower-priced but accurate replicas of celebrity bling bling. Instead of the diamonds and other precious gems used in celebrity jewelry, cheaper zirconia and base metals are used for duplicates. Body jewelry (both the pierced and non-pierced types) that is unusually designed and made with inexpensive materials has also seen an increase in teenage patrons.

Beaded jewelry and woven friendship bracelets and rings are some of the other hot trends in teen jewelry fashion. Many teenagers make these dress accessories themselves and give them to friends as gifts. These are personalized with beads that have the letters of the recipient’s name on them are incorporated into the woven fibers. Many teenagers also wear certain types of jewelry to identify them as part of a clique or group. These may take the form of uniquely designed pendants, rings or charms that have spiritual or mystical overtones.

Feminine teen jewelry fashion styles are also influenced largely by young celebrities today. Items worn by teen stars, such as Hilary Duff’s slave bracelets, are copied by her non-celebrity counterparts. However, whimsical designs are still hugely popular among this set of young consumers. Gold- or silver-plated jewelry and jewelry that has gemstones has not lost its following among teenagers.

Some masculine teen jewelry fashion trends, on the other hand, tend to lean more toward beadwork, silverwork, leatherwork, and unusual stones. Teenage guys seem to think that sporty-looking accessories, such as so-called surfer-dude necklaces and arm bands made from bone, wood, or shell beads on a rubber or leather cord are cool. Stainless steel jewelry is popular with them, too.

Jewelry has been used by all people throughout history as marks of beauty or to denote social status. Adolescents are not immune to these patterns; in fact they are probably even more susceptible to them because of their need to simultaneously conform and stand out. Teenage jewelry fashion is part of their social arsenal and a tool in the development process.

Summer Swimsuits - There is Still Time to Enjoy Them

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 4:32 pm

Our summer season has finally made its way into July, marking what most of us consider to be the halfway point of the season. Soon enough, we will struggle to fit another weekend getaway into what is left of summer before having to dismantle the laid back attitude of the summer sun. Students of all ages will be returning to their campuses, only to recall and share the fond memories with other peers.

There is still time to get the most of the warmth and sun before having to cope with facing the inevitable reality of responsibility. There are some relatively unknown tips that can aid in your quest of the everlasting summer, even for those in regions where piling snow will replace the thick green blades of grass.

Find Close-Out Swimwear with Style

Now is the season to gather up all the latest closeout bikini and one-piece swimsuits that are holding back the fall and winter gear from reaching the store shelves. Even top designer swimwear gets discounted in the off season. To make sure that your new suit has the staying power for beaches to come, there are some simple rules to follow when selecting the right suit.

  • Printed Fabrics versus Solids. Prints are trendy, and they tend to go out of style much faster than solid patterns. There are exceptions to the rule, and common sense plays an important role.
  • Pastels and Neon versus the Basic Eight. Like printed fabrics, funky colors are seasonal. It is best to pick the bikini with the basic eight colors. They are always in style, and you don’t risk the obsolescence of your new suit.
  • Slingshot Bikini? Every year there is a new take on the bikini. Although the cool fads might last a few seasons, they can drop off the radar at any minute. Unless you have inside information from a reliable source, stick to the basics.
  • Trust A-List Designers. Designer swimwear manufacturers usually have a longevity that can be trusted. Top designers set the stage that others so diligently follow. They are the trend setters, and finding their swimwear at discounted pricing is fabulous, especially if your style will last more than one season.
  • Go Directly to the Source. By heading right toward the designer, there is no middleman getting in the way. Web sites are easily updated and many of the top designers have online bikini and swimwear galleries to browse. Checking at the closeout specials often allow you first-hand knowledge of the newly discounted swimwear.

Even as the summer draws to a close, begin thinking about your winter getaway to the tropics. There is much to plan, and being prepared with your swimsuits is priceless. Concentrate on other aspects of your travels knowing that you have paid less for the best swimwear available.

How to Find the Perfect Swimsuit for Your Body Type

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 4:30 pm

Finding the best swimsuit is something that we all struggle with! Who hasn’t tried on every style and tried to figure out which ones are the best and hide a little of this or that? This article will take the guess work out of shopping and make finding that perfect fit happen a little easier. Think of al the time you’ll save in the dressing room next time your shopping.

The first thing to do if you are shopping for a swimsuit is to identify your body type and what areas you are trying to conceal. Depending on which swimwear categories you fit into, try the techniques and tips listed below for the best look.

Bottom Heavy:

  • Try a skirted suit if you have more of a pear shaped body. You’ll be surprised how fun some of the latest skirted suits look - they aren’t as matronly as they once were!
  • Vertical detailing on top: try on suits that draw the eye to the top of the swimsuit to look longer and leaner. For instance if the suit is all black, try on one with the design up at the top.
  • Try straight necklines to broaden shoulders and balance out proportions - this will give the illusion of a more hour-glass shape.

Wide Waist:

  • If you have a wider waist, try using a belt or stripes around the waist area.
  • Even though most people think it will draw attention to the midsection, it will actually clinch your midsection and make at appear smaller.
  • Stay away from prints - solid fabrics are the most slimming.
  • Streamlined lines along the sides - light colors down the sides give the illusion of a smaller waist.

Small Breasts:

  • Give them lift by trying padded close together cups to enhance a small bustline.
  • Try different prints - some lines and designs can actually enhance and make you appear curvier.
  • If you can’t do under-wire and padding, try shorter straps to pull you up and fill you out.

Large Breasts:

  • Try high straight bustlines. They conceal and help you look more proportionate.
  • Try a swimsuit with larger straps. They offer more support and cover side bulges.
  • Try tankinis and bikinis. They offer a lot of support and lift.

Long-Midsection or Short Legs:

  • Try a higher cut leg - it gives the optical illusion that your legs are longer.

Finding the right swimwear can be a difficult task for anyone, regardless of body style. With a few simple ideas, you’ll be able to get a stylish suit that flatters even the body parts that you are most concerned with.

Diamond Hoop Earrings - The Diva’s Choice

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 4:29 pm

Men grow cold as girls grow old
And we all lose our charms in the end
But square-cut or pear-shaped
These rocks don’t lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

– from the movie “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”

Diamond hoop earrings are perfectly popular these days, thanks to young pop divas like Jennifer Lopez or J-Lo, hiphop diva extraordinaire. J-Lo is also known for spreading the trend of the chandelier earring, and other cascading-style ear ornaments.

Now take another diva and examine her choice of jewelry. We’re talking about actress Elizabeth Taylor and her special fondness for diamonds. When she was dubbed a Dame of the British Empire, the nation held a “black tie and diamonds” event, to commemorate her love for that specific precious stone. Diamond hoop earrings are part of Miss Taylor’s not inconsiderable jewelry collection.

Take hoop earrings up another level and what do you get? Precious stones set into the hoops. What precious stone is considered the most popular, the most prestigious, and the most in-demand throughout the ages? Of course, it is the diamond.

Diamonds are formed over a period of a billion or more years deep within the Earth’s crust - about 90 miles deep - and is pushed to the surface by volcanoes. Most diamonds are found in volcanic rock called kimberlite, or in the sea after having been carried away by rivers when they were pushed to the surface.

Hoops, for their part, come in a variety of thicknesses and sizes. Sometimes they are so fragile as to create cascading earring designs, and at other times they are so thick that you can set stones and other materials into them. Hoop earrings used to be a favorite jewelry style among ancient Central and South American tribes, at a time when gold flowed freely and primarily held only decorative value.

Combine the youthful appeal of hoop earrings and the distinguished status of the diamond and you’ll have an entrancing diamond hoop earring. A small, thick hoop earring made of fine silver or gold may be studded with diamonds. Conversely, a hoop earring may also host even just one diamond, snugly fitted into its metal niche. Diamond hoop earrings are a unique design, pursued and appreciated for their earthly elegance.

Pastoral Theology Essentials of Ministry is a “must have” resource for all persons contemplating entering the ministry, those who want to understand the role of pastors more clearly, and those ministers who want to review their role in the light of a systematic reflection on the pastoral office in general.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even more than I did his Agenda for Theology. I think he presented his theory of ordained ministry, including a definition of its functions and duties underlying theological principles method, in a succinct and easily understood manner. The whole book is a treasure of resouces for all desiring to increase understanding of this office and what it means to be a pastor. My comments however, are limited to the three chapters that stand out most for me: Women in the Pastoral Office, The Care of Souls and Pastoral Care of the Dying.

Women in ministry will find Oden’s favorable position on women performing in pastoral capacities quite enlightening, affirming and Biblically sound. He makes some significant observations that certainly challenge the most intransigent opposition. Most of the controversial discussions over the legitimacy of women in the pastoral ministry arise because of hermeneutical differences. In Pastoral Theology, Oden presents his own hermeneutics as well as the hermeneutics of those who object to women’s ordination to the pastoral ministry. He argues in support of women on the basis of the larger Biblical picture; he looks for the general principles found inherent in the flow of Scriptures. He also takes into account the historical and cultural dynamics within which the inspired writer wrote. Implicit in Oden’s comments is the notion that the issue of women is not simply or merely academic. It lies at the very heart of our struggle to stand together as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.

Oden brilliantly distinguishes pastoral care of souls from other pastoral functions by illuminating its primary focus on individual need and the personal character of the pastor’s involvement with the parishioner. His approach is holistic and deeply human.

Though somewhat implied, I wish Oden emphasized more explicitly the need for pastors to have adequate education and psychological qualifications for the task of caring for souls. Certainly with the multi-problematic concerns of people today, with the mental anomalies that grip them tenaciously, does it not seem appropriate that pastors should be intellectually suited and academically prepared for her/his work? The pastor is a “physician of the soul” and just as the physicians today must know far more and practice more expertly to meet people’s health need, so likewise, will the physician of the soul.

Finally, Oden’s treatment of and recommendation for pastoral care of the dying is extremely informative. He delineates pastoral responsibilities and offers helpful guidelines for counseling with the dying and relating to hospital staff. Any reader who has not thought through the importance of the funeral would do well to study these sections intently for there is some very convincing evidence presented.

This book is a classic and should be in every pastor’s personal library. Even though, as with most books, there are specific areas where we are bound to disagree, overall, the information and ideas presented is worth its weight in gold.

Are you jaded of the usual junk or gold or silver? Wish to append that exquisite flicker to your jewelry box? Nothing serves you better than moissanite diamonds. Moissanite diamonds will be the crown of glory on your fabulous jewel collection. For the admirers of splendor, looking to flaunt their luxury, these artificial diamonds are perfect.

Moissanite diamonds are simulated diamonds that are artificially created in the lab. Crafted with unmatchable expertise and almost unattainable proficiency, these gems truly reflect your class. They are intricately shaped and cut to perfection.

In spite of the fact that moissanite stones are simulated diamonds they do not give the feel of being counterfeit unlike most other diamond alternatives that can easily be distinguished. Their conspicuous fire lends moissanite jewels that exclusively fine look.

No Less Than A Real Diamond

Duly known as the substitute to diamonds, though simulated, it is extremely difficult to tell moissanite from a real diamond. Moissanite diamonds appear to be as real as a natural diamond. They come along with a bonus benefit of being cheaper. But however, this piece of cosmic gem is no less in the comparison of the glam element - even more than a diamond!

Originally found in Arizona about more than 50,000 years ago, moissanite was showered upon the earth by a meteorite. Looked upon as an absolute diamond look-alike with an added profit of being shinier, moissanite caught the fancy of all jewel lovers. With its crystal clear form and radiant blaze moissanite stands out among the rest of the semiprecious stones present today.

For that distinct silver lining all over you, that is sure to get you noticed, moissanite diamonds would make a smart decision you can rely on even with your eyes closed.

These simulated diamonds make a pleasing gift irrespective of the occasion. You could present it to a friend, a relative or could simply savor the beauty of this simulated diamond yourself!

Telling Bakelite From Other Plastic Materials

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 4:24 pm

Dr. Leo Baekland, a scientist, was responsible for the discovery of bakelite. He was born in Belgian. In 1889 he immigrated the the USA hoping for better career opportunities.

In 1907 he was working as independent chemist when by accident he discovered the compound of carbolic acid and formaldehyde. When he tried to reheat the solidified compound he discovered it would not melt no matter how high the temperature.

Shortly after he trademarked “Bakelite” as well as two other variations “catalin” and “marblette” which today are also referred to as bakelite.

Bakelite was the first synthetic plastic. Because of its durability and beauty its uses were simply endless, it grew in popularity very quickly and within 15 years it had taken the world by storm.

You could find everything from electrical plugs, to ornate jewelry made from bakelite. It was even used on the dashboard face of the Mercedes Benz car.

It could be produced in a wide array of colors, but most common where white, brown, green and red. Bakelite dating back to the 1920s-1940’s has oxidized and developed a wonderful patina that is sometime a completely different hue than the original color. For example, White is often seen as butterscotch, light blue changes to forest green, pink turns to orange.

Because of this invention, Dr Beakeland is seen as the father of the present plastic industry. The costume jewelry from the 1920’s-1940’s bakelite era is highly sought after. So how do you determine if it is actually made of bakelite? There are a couple of fairly simple tests. Although not full proof they work pretty well.

Smell - When bakelite is heated it has a very strong odor which comes from the carbolic acid in the composition. On some pieces you can release the smell simply by rubbing them hard with your thumb and creating heat.

Others will need very hot water to release the odor. Still on others the odor is so faint you may not detect it.

Sound - When you tap two bakelite pieces together they will make a deep clunking sound, rather than the higher pitched clack of acrylic or Lucite plastics. This test is the most unreliable as it is difficult to interpret the sound because the density of the items affects the sound you hear.

Hot Pin Test - Bakelite is a thermoset plastic so it cannot be remolded with heat. To test if a piece is bakelite get a very very hot pin from an open flame source, then touch the pin to the item. If it is bakelite it will not penetrate.
It may give off the acid smell and it may leave a purple burn mark.

If the pin penetrates or melts the plastic then it is not bakelite. Use caution when doing this test as it can devalue the bakelite piece considerable, and it may do serious damage to other types of plastic should the piece turn out not to be bakelite. If you proceed with this test be sure to find a very inconspicuous spot.

Also if the material should be celluloid, it is very flammable and can be very dangerous. If you suspect the piece may be celluloid I recommend you “do not” conduct this test. When ever you are conducting this test you should wear the appropriate safety equipment such as eye goggles and gloves.

Formula 409 or Scrubbing Bubbles or Simichrome - this product works very well to test whether an item is bakelite. Make sure the item is clean, wet the end of a Q-tip with Formula 409 then touch it to the piece.

If the Q-tip turns yellow then the piece is bakelite. If you believe a piece is bakelite but it doesn’t pass the 409 test don’t count it out. Sometimes polished bakelite will not react or pass the test.

The best way to recognize bakelite comes with experience. After you’ve seen enough pieces you will easily recognize it. There are also some excellent books on the market that you might find helpful.

  • BAKELITE JEWELRY - Tony Grasso

  • THE BEST OF BAKELITE AND OTHER PALSTIC JEWELRY - Dee Battle & Alayne Lesser

  • BAKELITE JEWELRY GOOD*BETTER*BEST - Donna Wassertrom & Leslie Pina

Bakelite has always been known as the material with 1000 uses, and it surely did earn this name. Bakelite is now treasured for its unique, unreproducible beauty. When the Bakelite patent expired in 1927, it was acquired by the Catalin Corporation that same year.

They began mass production under the name “Catalin. The Catalin Corporation was responsible for nearly 70% of all phenolic resins that exist today.

Bakelite-Catalin was sold mainly to companies like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bonwit Teller, Woolworth’s, and Sears. Much of the wealthy society fell into touch times during the depression and could not longer afford the Tiffany diamonds or Cartier Jewelry.

Bakelite-Catalin took up the market slack with its colorful carved jewelry adorned with rhinestones. This jewelry was within the reach of all and its popularity grew from the poorest to the wealthiest in society.

In 1942 Bakelite-Catalin stopped sales of their colorful costume jewelry in order to concentrate on the nation’s wartime needs. They produced thousands of products found their way into the military.

By the end of the war new technologies were for molded plastics had been developed. These new products consisted of plastics such as Lucite, Fiberglass, Vinyl, and Acrylic all which were molded. Bakelite and Catalin become obsolete except in the hearts of collectors who still pursue it today.

  • Diamond Earrings - Superiority and Endurance

    Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 4:23 pm

“A diamond is forever,” as the old saying goes. The late actress Marilyn Monroe said it best: “a diamond is a girl’s best friend.” So much tribute has been paid to the everlasting glory of the diamond, which is among the most valuable (and expensive!) precious stones in existence. Is it any wonder then that diamond jewelry is so fashionable? Diamond earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets - many of these are regarded as works of art.

The diamond is the most unadulterated of all the gemstones composed of a single pure element. It is also the hardest transparent substance that exists. It is for this that the diamond stands as a symbol of strength, purity of spirit, and even physical chastity.

Diamond earrings first reached the height of fashion in Europe in the 18th century, just before the Renaissance era. To this day many people, even men, wear diamond earrings as a classy adornment. George Michael and Prince are only two of the many male celebrities who have been known to use diamonds as ear decorations. From time to time, David Beckham of soccer fame sports the odd diamond earring worth around $12,300.

Diamonds emphasize superiority and endurance. Unlike pearls they do not trap light, but reflect them — projecting not just a glow, but a finely subtle ray of light upon the bearer’s features. The light reflected by a diamond earring is often caught in the wearer’s eye, hence you might notice a crafty sparkle in the eyes of women who wear finely-cut genuine diamond earrings.

Primarily, a diamond is graded by its 4 C’s: the cut, clarity, color, and carat weight. These characteristics are taken into consideration in the crafting of the finest diamond earrings. Take these factors into consideration when picking out diamond jewelry.

Diamond earrings make the best gifts for loved ones who have an eye for quality, and deserve only the best in life. These accessories speak of the wearer’s high-class taste and love for things of beauty.
